Okay in this post i will further elaborate some important things about the fingerings.

In my preivous post, i mention that for strings are starting from the lowest string G, D, A and E and the notes are A, B, C, D, E, F, G then it goes back to A again. So the last string is G and logically if you use one finger to press the string you will produce the sound A, two fingers and you will produce the sound B then three finger you will produce the sound C lastly when you use four finger to press you will produce the sound D.

You might be wondering if this D is the same as the second thickest string D yes it is the same so from here you shoild learn that when ever you use four finger to press on a thicker string it will produce the same sound as  the next string which is the next thinner string when you play is openly.

If you still do not understand this is a link to a video on our facebook group page, watch it and i hope you will understand.

Actually it is not hard to play a violin the only thing that is hard is to know the notes well.

When Playing the violin there will also be different positions.

First position is normally where you play.

Second position is where you slide your first finger to the second finger's place in the first position.

Third position where you slide your first finger to the third finger's place in the first position.

You change your position when you have to play notes that are so high or so low that fingers in first position cannot reach or you change to smoothen or make it easy to play.

Mastering the placing of notes will be easy. Why? Because you can do it just by practicing hard enough until you are familiar with the notes.

However, if you want to master the changing of position it will be quite hard.

However "Practice makes Perfect"

You should know by now that the 2nd thinnest string is A

Logically the next note is B, C, D... so on and so forth but the note only reach G and then it will turn to A again.

When you play the violin, make sure that the bow is parallel with the bridge.

Try pulling a note, ensure that the bow stays parallel do not let it slip.

Keep doing that because before you can play anything you need to get full control of the bow know where is the heavy where is the light part. This will allow you to play notes steadily.

A violin cannot come without bow. Without a bow, a violin cannot play a single note so a bow is very important.

Parts of a the bow:

There are the screw, pad, stick, hair and the frog.

Screw: Screw is the thing you turn it to tighten the hair

Pad: Pad is where you rest your hand

Hair: Ensure that the hair is always applied with Rosin so that the sound is clear and loud

Frog: Frog is the end of the bow that holds one end of the hair

Stick: Stick is the stick that connect the end of the bow to the other bow

There are two types of bows the wooden and the carbon fibre.

Wooden bow:

It is the normal bow that is brown in colour. It is the most common as most of the violinist are using the wooden bow

Some wooden bow are very good as they can cost up to 20,000 SGD or more as the sound produce by the bow depends on the quality of the wood used to make the bow.

Carbon Fibre bow:

To me I think using the carbon fibre bow is quite cool as the stick is all black.

Carbon fibre bow is good as it is much more durable then wooden bow. After you tighten your bow if you forgot to untighten it, a wooden bow will be bent but a carbon fibre bow will not as it has a memory of the shape so it will spring back to original shape.

Okay for this post i am going to tell you what is a violin.

There are total of four families of instrument, the woodwind family, the brass family, the strings family and lastly the percussion instruments and the violin belongs in the strings family.

It has the highest pitch and is the smallest in the strings family.

In the strings family, there are violin, viola, cello, double bass.

Parts of the violin:

The violins have different parts that have different names. The parts are scroll, pegbox, fingerboard, neck, upper bout and lower bout, F-holes, bridge, fine tuners, tailpieces and finally the chinrest.

Scroll: The scroll is the tip of the violin.

Pegbox: The pegbox is where all the pegs with strings are placed. For a novice, I suggest he or her not to touch the peg box instead ask a professional to help you tune the violin with the pegs. As the pegs may break if you are not experience it may also cause the strings to break. To me I will call the pegbox the most dangerous part of your violin.

Fingerboard: The finger board is the place where you press the strings to produce different sounds. Playing the violin will require your left hand to move left to right pressing different strings it may also require you to move up and down due to the changing of position don't worry as you learn this on my later post

Upper and lower bout: The upper and lower bout is a like your body upper and lower part of the body

F-holes: When playing the violin ensure the F-holes are not block as most of the melody will be coming out from the holes. You must also ensure that nothings drop into the F-hles as it may damage your violin

Bridge: Bridge is a piece of wood that let the strings rest on it. you play the violin with a bow. the loudest place you can pull the strings is somewhere near the bridge

Fine tuners: Ah fine tuners. Fine tuners are sometimes not installed to some violin but you can request the shopkeeper to buy it. As i mention that the pegbox is a dangerous part the safest part to tune your violin is by fine-tuners.

Tailpieces: Tailpieces holds he end of the four strings

Chinrest: Chinrest is where you rest your chin

Okay that is all for the intro:)
